Generally speaking, it is easiest to set the points when the piston is at TDC. Please refer to the TDC page for three methods on how to find TDC. TDC, or Top Dead Center, refers to the position of the crankshaft and piston when the piston is as close to the head (at the top of the stroke) as it can be. If you need to set the timing on a CDI ignition system, please read Ignition timing for CDI.įor a more thorough technical rundown of ignition timing concepts, read this post Setting the ignition timing First: Find TDC Recently, advances in electronics have introduces the CDI (Capacitor Discharge Ignition). This has been achieved by using a mechanical system called points ignition for many years. Adjusting when this happens is very important and can significantly affect how the bike runs. Timing a bike refers to setting when a spark jumps the gap between the center electrode and the ground electrode on a spark plug and its relation to the rotation of the crankshaft. Some of the concepts here may also apply to non-keyed (Moby, Peugeot, etc) mopeds, but some parts of the instructions will not work on non-keyed mopeds. The instructions are intended for mopeds with woodruff keys (Puch, Tomos, etc). This article explains ignition timing and how to set it for points ignition systems. 2.4 Fourth: Make the points open when they're supposed to.2.3 Third: Determine when the points should open.In 1910, Puch is known to have produced sedans for members of the imperial family. In 1906 the production of the two- cylinder Puch Voiturette began and in 1909 a Puch car broke the world high-speed record with 130,4 km/h. Production of engines was started in 1901 and cars followed in 1904. The main production plant, later called " Einser-Werk", was constructed in the south of Graz, in the district of Puntigam. It soon began producing motorcycles and mopeds. Puch's company became successful through innovation and quality handicraft, rapidly expanding over time. Ten years later he founded his company, "Erste Steiermärkische Fahrradfabrik AG" ( en: "First Styrian Bicycle AG"). Johann Puch first produced bicycles in 1889 in a small workshop called " Fahrradfabrikation Strauchergasse 18 a" in Graz. 8 Puch motorcycle marketed as the "Twingle".
